The College of Environmental Design will celebrate the memory of memory Marvin J. Malecha – a world-renowned architect, design educator and former Dean of the College of Environmental Design at Cal Poly Pomona. Mr. Malecha’s leadership stewarded the futures of design programs in North Carolina State University and the NewSchool of Architecture and Design.
But he did it first at ENV (1982-1994), as an architecture professor and department chair, and ultimately as its top administrator. His legacy at Cal Poly Pomona includes the design and realization of important facilities such as the Interim Design Center (Building 89), the Lyle Center for Regenerative Studies (Building 209) and the W. Keith and Janet Kellogg University Art Gallery.
The virtiual memorial is open to the public. Registration is required; attendees will be mailed the password to access the event.
The program opens with welcome remarks from President Soraya Coley and Interim Dean Lauren Weiss Bricker, followed by presentations from friends and professional colleagues, excerpts from a late interview with Mr. Malecha, and a film about his drawings and artwork that offer an insight into how he viewed the world.
