Between Sky and Ground: A Cooling Pavilion
Through the research, design and construction of a Cooling Pavilion for the Lyle Center for Regenerative Studies, students explore technical, spatial and material linkages between sky and ground, water and body, architecture and landscape. The pavilion will also serve as a visitor welcome center for facilitating tours for schools, community groups and the general public. The interdisciplinary vision upon which the Lyle Center was founded is put into practice through the studio’s collaboration with faculty and students from Plant Science, Regenerative Studies and Architecture. Passive cooling principles will form the basis of design explorations involving planting, irrigation, concrete and lightweight shade structures.
